The London Drum story
we opened our doors in 2015 in brunswick, melbourne as a tea and coffee house.
during this time, we fell in love with the rich history and culture of tea, which we found to be lost under the array of artificially flavoured and brightly marketed teas.
WHO ARE WE?
The London Drum is run by mother and daughter duo debbie and kristy. With an extensive background in hospitality and having worked as a qualified barista and hospitality trainer for a number of establishments throughout victoria, Kristy brings a wealth of knowledge to the table. Through this experience, Kristy identified a large gap in the quality of tea and tea education within the industry. Her goal is to redefine the role of the barista.
the story of our tea
We believe that history, tradition and culture matter.
Tea has a long rich history and a diverse culture around the world, which should be celebrated.
Through researching tea’s past, we create signature blends based on traditional recipes that are sometimes centuries old, yet still enjoyed around the world.
Our single origin and single estate teas are selected for their individual characteristics and blended with other estates or regions to create our signature flavour profiles.
We enrich the humble cup of tea, by steeping it in history.
the story behind the name
the inspiration behind the name 'the london drum' stems from our love of the history of tea and how it was embraced by each country. we chose to focus our name on 17th century london, when tea was first introduced to londoners through the controversial coffee houses.
tea was first introduced to the public by thomas garraway in 1657, where it was sold THROUGH HIS COFFEE HOUSE as a health beverage .
Tea is an ancient beverage, it is a ceremony, an experience, an escape, a moment of peace, a ritual and a way of life for many.
