Have you tried traditional Turkish apple tea (elma cay)? If your answer is no, you are missing out on a delicious thing here.. think sweet apple pie with warming cinnamon and spicy clove.
This is an age old recipe for true Turkish style apple tea, served in the homes for loved ones - no flavoured sugars here!
Add a squeeze of lemon juice for some extra zing, or honey for some extra sweetness.
This tea makes an interesting addition to a dessert menu or as an accompaniment to a cream or custard dessert.
Turkish Apple Tea: 2 teaspoons
Water: 250 ml
Temp: 100*C (simmering water is best, but 'off the boil' water works too)
Time: 5 + mins
Measure the apple tea with the water into a small pot. Bring to a boil, then reduce to simmer ingredients until the apple becomes soft, around 5 minutes. Strain the tea by pressing on the apples through a strainer. Add a squeeze of lemon or honey upon serving. No milk please.
